This part of our short trip was not a compulsory visit. I mean, the kids had nothing to say in this matter, but the other parts of our adult s group decided to go… shopping 🙂 So, we went for a stroll.
On the way down to the City Hall, we visited George’s Market, where we stopped for something to eat. Freshly prepared burgers, fries, pancakes, crepes, pitas, doughnuts with Nutella, paellas, and many more – this is what the Tigers love the most. We have no photos from inside the Market as we were too busy eating all of the above, gorgeous food 🙂
When we had our bellies full, we continued our walk towards the destination point – Belfast City Hall.
It is Belfast City Council’s civic building and it was open to public in 1906. The outside of the building is built mainly from Portland stone and is in the Baroque Revival style. Inside you can have a tour (completely free of charge) and admire all of the breathtaking features: The Grand Staircase, The Grand Entrance, stained glass and many more. While exploring the building, we had great opportunity to learn a lot about Belfast’s history from displays along the sightseeing route.
The boys were NOT impressed with the place, but can we blame 9 and 6 year olds? They were probably thinking: What are we doing here? It is sooooooo booooooring. But you know what? It was a good lesson for all of us: we learnt about the history and the boys… Well… Patience, I guess 🙂
As a really quick summary – Belfast City Hall is a place worth a visit, but you must be prepared (if you are traveling with small kids) on: How much longer will it take? Can we go, pleeeaasseee?
We will see you next time….
